Long division is a crazy long and difficult algorithm. It just plain takes a lot of practice to memorize and understand thoroughly. Wouldn’t you rather play a game than complete worksheet after worksheet?
This game is comprised of 3-digit dividends and 1-digit divisors (unless you use a 10-sided die). But it’s fun so your kiddos will happily and voluntarily practice!

Telling time can be confusing to kids when they learn that the short hand points to the hour. It does point to the hour on the hour, but then it points between hours at half past, quarter past and quarter to. So kids tend to think that the hour is whichever number the short hand is closest to. Confusion! That’s why I teach telling time a little differently. This 11-page file includes teaching instructions, visual aids and fun practice worksheets that progressively teach time to the hour, half hour, quarter hours and five minutes. Your child will never again be confused about telling time!

This 10-page file contains 8 pages of a math adventure mystery that will help your child memorize his arithmetic facts, but in a FUN way that doesn’t feel monotonous and boring. Most important of all, it will instill a sense of mathematical confidence in your child while it builds his number sense.
Did you know that lack of confidence is the number one reason behind a dislike of math? The corollary is also true. Kids who like math feel confident in their abilities. Successful completion of mathematical challenges builds confidence.

This 42-page file includes everything you need to play The Grocery Game with your kiddos! Math games are the best way to get kids voluntarily practicing difficult concepts — just like a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. This game adds an element of competition, some funny scenarios to get you all roaring with laughter, and a couple of sneaky maneuvers to keep everyone guessing. Your children will barely realize they’re adding and subtracting decimals! Multiplication is completely optional. You may choose to have your kids add tax (thus the decimal multiplication) or not. Without tax the game is strictly addition and subtraction of decimal numbers.
The grocery prices in this game are NOT friendly. There are almost no nice, round numbers, so your children will get plenty of practice adding 99’s and other tough values. My 2nd grader has a hard time with this game, but she still likes to play it. The twists in the game give the slowest players opportunities to win, regardless of their computation speed. My 4th and 5th graders have no trouble playing this. If you’re looking for nice, round, friendly numbers and smaller problems, try ‘The Sandwich Game‘, which is also a lot of fun!
If you’re looking for more decimal multiplication, try the game ‘Multiplying Groceries’, which is similar to this one, but with a whole lot more multiplication.
