Free, printable Math Placemats
I was a kid way back when nobody had cell phones. My mom wouldn’t allow us to bring books to the table, either.
Gah! Can you imagine?
We were forced to have actual conversations around the table!
That’s probably why we fought over the cereal boxes, haha.
My memories of fighting over cereal boxes prompted me to create some educational math placemats for my own children.
Before we talk about the math placemats… Are you looking for a homeschool math curriculum your children will LOVE? Something you won’t have to beg, nag or cajole them to complete? Something that, through math games, will help them reach monumental math insights on their own?
Kids don’t hate math, they hate feeling stuck. We Play Math eliminates frustration through gamification. Short, animated videos teach concepts and games and puzzles provide practice. Our math arcade facilitates instant, automatic recall of critical math facts.
I don’t know that learning by osmosis is actually a thing, but I like to joke that learning from placemats is learning by osmosis. It’s not structured or formal, requires no curriculum and only requires time spent already doing something else, like eating.

My kids loved these math placemats so much and they proved to be such an effective method of memorization, that I took the learning by osmosis idea a step further and bought World Map shower curtains, a United States map tablecloth, map wallpaper and began to used educational posters as wall decor .
These math placemats are generally geared toward kids in elementary school, probably ages 5-12. They include 2D and 3D shapes, multiplication tables, fractions, number correlation, counting mazes and even a few math jokes you’ll enjoy hearing all year long, ad nauseum. Aren’t kids fun?
This file includes several math placemats. Don’t print them all — just print the ones you feel like your children will benefit from.
I made my math placemats letter size because I’m lazy, haha! Finding everyone’s shoes so I can drag them, kicking and screaming, to the copy store to make larger copies was beyond my capabilities.
However, if you have extra energy and time, letter size will scale up perfectly to 2- 12″ x 18″ prints on an 18″ x 24″ engineering print. At Staples, or your local printer, just upload the file and order the black and white engineering print in 18×24″ size. It will cost you about $1.75 per two placemats.
If you’re one of those overachieving types, you could print these even larger to use as posters!
You’ll want to laminate these math placemats so they will be reusable. It’s fun for kids to use dry erase markers (fine tip ones would work best in this case) on the laminated placemats. (Warning! Dry erase markers are hard to get out of light-colored clothing!)

I’m really excited to try these placemats!! I was also wondering where you got the table cloth and shower curtain?! Thanks, Ida Schmucker
I’m glad you like the math placemats! I bought the map shower curtain and tablecloth from Amazon.
We are visual and always hungry for brain food! Thanks a ton!
