My favorite Homeschool Planner

(This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosures for more information.)

When I began homeschooling over twenty years ago, there was no such thing as a homeschool planner, so I added extra pages to my daily planner and made my own. It worked fine because my kids were all little so I was the only person using my planner and I was just homeschooling one, then two, then three kiddos.

But I was thrilled to purchase my first actual, physical homeschool planner a few years in. I was so glad to have a space for each subject, including extracurriculars and a place for record keeping.

(Check out these homeschool planners from Sara at Blessed Homeschool!)

It was amazing, but it was still a lot of work because by then I was homeschooling six kids with a toddler and a baby. I was trying to encourage my older kids to work independently, using the planner to stay on schedule.

But that meant it got misplaced — a LOT!

The natural side effect of daily math and writing assignments, art projects, weekly science experiments and all of the glorious learning that was happening at our house was major paper clutter. Lost textbooks, lost planners and lost shoes were a daily occurrence.

Google’s invention of the google drive with shared documents and spreadsheets felt like a miracle to me! I began using the cloud for everything, including homeschool recordkeeping and homeschool planning.

That way, I could share a spreadsheet planner with my kids and they could each check in without anyone losing the planner. It was still a lot of work to plan out each year for each child for each subject, but it was much easier to revise (add/delete rows and columns) and it was accessible to all and it was never lost!

I did wish periodically, though, for a nicer format.

And then I found the Homeschool Planet Online Planner from Homeschool Planet! They are exactly what I’ve dreamed of and I’m thrilled to be able to share them with you!

Homeschool Planning Made Easy

Imagine a homeschool planner that is not only online, so your kids never lose it, but that is also EASY for your children to use independently, that creates the lesson plans for you, specific to the curriculum you are using, is EASY to revise whenever needed and that can fully replace any planner you’ve used previously, including grocery lists, to-do lists, shopping lists and everything so that all you need is one handy, easy-to-use place!

It might sound too good to be true, but I promise you it isn’t.

Homeschool Lesson Plans

Planning and record keeping are the parts of homeschooling I dread the most. The worst is when we get off schedule and I have to revise and re-date everything.

This aspect was easier with google sheets than with paper and pencil, but it was still frustrating and annoying to have to copy/paste in all the new dates. Homeschool Planet Online Planner does ALL of that for you.

I’m not kidding!

The planner creates your school calendar in minutes according to your preferences (like you might want to skip Fridays or take longer holiday breaks). You can add classes, assignments, field trips and more as single or recurring events.

You can purchase professionally designed, publisher-created lesson plans from your favorite homeschool publishers, which can be completely customized to your preferences and which add or you can use the automatic assignment generator. I’ll add a video of that below to explain it better.

You can also save and reuse lesson plans with multiple kiddos to save time. And when you inevitably need to reschedule missed or incomplete assignments, it’s easy! Drag and drop your entire schedule or individual assignments. Or use the automatic daily rescheduling feature for incomplete assignments.

More Than Just a Homeschool Planner

This planner is more than just a homeschool planner! You can schedule chores, sports practices, music lessons, work schedules and more. Each family member has a separate login and you get to choose what each family member can view and edit.

You can view your calendar by the day, week or month and you can add holiday calendars for 119 countries, plus religious calendars. It will also sync with other calendar software such as Google or ical.

Homeschool Planet Online Planner is the ultimate in flexibility. Every member of your family can personalize his or her own planner’s appearance, format and content.

The mobile app allows you to access your schedule on your phone or tablet while you are out and about. All of this helpful tech is very intuitive, too. Plus, Homeschool Planet provides short video tutorials explaining the navigation and features of the online homeschool planner.

You can customize the grading categories as well as the grading scales. The homeschool planner software automatically computes grades, which are available at any time. You can individualize the reports for each child. The grading helper also shows you missing grades and/or assignments at-a-glance.

I haven’t yet used the transcript generation feature, but it looks incredibly helpful! How to generate homeschool transcripts in a click.
